Home and Vehicle Modification

Can Disabled Veterans Get Help Modifying Their Homes?

Yes. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs operates two different programs that can help veterans modify their homes to accommodate their service connected disabilities. Together, they provide a maximum of $54,000. They can also be used towards the construction of a new home that meets the needs of the veteran. We recommend you apply for these benefits with the assistance of a veteran service officer.

Yes. The VA also has a program that helps veterans modify vehicles to accommodate their service connected disabilities. This is frequently used when injuries to the lower extremities require additional hand controls. The VA can provide up to $11,000 towards the purchase of a vehicle with modifications.
